In our homes, everything revolves around the kitchen. The AZURE residence, located in a central Montreal neighborhood, is a fine example. In this major renovation of an intergenerational residence, the kitchen is at the heart of the floor layout. Remains uncovered during demolition revealed that the new staircase linking the two floors was recreated in the same place as when the original cottage, modified into a duplex around 1930, was built. Above the staircase, a new skylight illuminates the kitchen in the center of the first floor.

A large patio door lets natural light into the dining room, providing access to the intimate backyard and adjacent conservatory. Despite the work, the character of this beautiful turn-of-the-century home has been carefully preserved and restored. The radiators were sandblasted and reinstalled. Moldings and baseboards were preserved or reproduced. The house has retained the charm of the period, while being resolutely adapted to today's requirements for quality of sunlight, fluidity and openness of spaces, not forgetting all the little practical aspects that make daily family life easier.
